"The King's Medals" for children (these in bronze) were awarded to M.Sherton for 1911, 1912, and 1913 by London County Council for "Good conduct in attendance and Industry" over the year (see extract from the internet below). Supplied in original cardboard box. (box A/F) "The first medal awarded for regular and punctual attendance to London schoolchildren was initiated by the School Board for London in 1887 and, with royal sanction, was designated the ‘Queen Victoria Medal’. After that monarch died, it was renamed the ‘King Edward VII Medal’ and, on his demise, it became simply ‘the King’s Medal’. The London County Council continued the awards when it took over as the education authority for London from the School Board in 1904. The award was suspended during the latter part of the First World War but was reintroduced briefly after the conclusion of hostilities. It was discontinued altogether in 1920 and the awards for the school year 1919/20 were the last."
